I bought this for backup heat as our central furnace is very old and the pilot goes out occasionally. We also live in an area where power has been out for ten days twice in the past five years. Once I installed it, I decided to leave it on to save on heating bills. Now our 60% efficient furnace kicks on half as often saving us enough to pay for the heater. I set the thermostat just below that of the main and it keeps this small house tolerable even if we lose power in the middle of the night. The main furnace went out the other night and we didn't even realize it until lunch.

I reread the manual and realized I had never cleaned it which requires only a Phillips head screwdriver to take it apart, Windex to clean the surfaces, and a straw to blow the dust out of the burner.
