We spent 9 years living in Carson Valley, Nevada, a high desert area, and got used to low humidity. You know, towels dry out before next use, bread doesn't mold quickly, etc. We moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, where the humidity is significantly higher (but not as high as the Gulf coast or Florida, where we also lived for a while). Well, the hand towel in the bathroom was often still damp, and bread molded before we finished the loaf. So we bought this unit.

It works GREAT! I would like it to be quieter, but it is quite quiet (I just want "no noise at all"), but I know you can't have fans blowing without some noise. I love the automatic feature that you can set what humidity you want (I use 35%, the lowest setting). For my 2700 sq. foot home, it does a great job of removing humidity, and all of the issues with high (50%)) humidity go away (yes, only 15% reduction is significant).

To reduce the background fan noise, we move it to near the badroom in the hall during the day, and into the living room at night. This has two benefits: the noise level is reduced so you really don't notice it, and we get both ends of the house (of course with forced air heating, you really don't need to move it).

Some days, with 30-40 degree at 90% humidity outside (fall, entering winter), it can take out a full tank in 12 hours. More typically, a half tank or less, depending on how many times you have the door opened.

I am very happy we bought the unit. It definately saves money on bread!
