Over the years, I have owned 3 other deep fryers ranging in price. I have never used a fryer as good as this one. I've had it for a bout a week and I have used it nearly every day making anything I can think of.

The fryer's temperature rebound is the best I have experienced in a home fryer. The fryer can return to temperature in less than a minute after making a batch of food. The digital display makes sure that you have it set to the correct temperature. The basket is "family sized" and you can legit make 2 large russet potatoes into fries in just one batch. I put 16 cheese sticks in at one time too and they came out perfect.

The best feature here is the automatic oil filtration and storage system. There is nothing like this in any other residential appliance. You literally flip a switch and once the oil cools down, it drains the oil (while filtering) into a storage reservoir built into the machine. The filtered oil is free of any debris. Also, all the parts (except the element) is dishwasher safe.

Ronco ST4023SSGEN Showtime Standard Rotisserie, Stainless Steel Review

I chose this rotisserie, because the positive reviews on it outnumbered the negative ones by far. In addition, my brother-in-law has one and has only good to say about it. So far we've only cooked chickens in it, and they have turned out wonderful. We use aluminum foil behind the elements and on the tray, so clean up is easy. There were only wisps of smoke periodically that came out of the vents, and that was probably due to fat popping onto the elements. The unit was fairly quiet, comparable to our Sunbeam that we loved and used almost every week for over six years. We have yet to try the kabob rods, but are looking forward to it.

Now, about the other accessories. First the bad. The rubber gloves, injector and thermometer are very cheap and serve no useful purpose. The gloves stink even after washing them, the liquid injector constantly falls apart, and the thermometer has a short lifespan.

Now the good. The rest of the accessories show promise. The solid flavor injector shows potential if you use a long, thin knife to create the pocket. The carving knife/fork pair are decent. The 1-quart dual heating tray with lid is good for keeping two small side dishes warm.

We did find it helpful to read ALL the instructions carefully and watch the DVD included in the box. They both gave hints and tips that were very important for a smooth, trouble-free cooking session.

So in a nutshell, the rotisserie itself is great. If you're looking for a rotisserie, get this one solely based on the value of the unit itself, not the accessories. We are well pleased so far.

Update (18Sep13): It is now four years later, and the unit is still cooking chickens (as large as 6 lbs) wonderfully - even after being dropped on the floor from the counter!

This couldn't have been easier. I chose this heater over a gas model because I had a 220 run right by where I wanted to mount it, but no gas lines even near my garage. There was also a junction box right there that supplies power to my shed (a 2 fuse sub panel for lights and a couple of outlets). My garage is a 2 1/2 car measuring about 34' x 28' with insulation in the walls, but the rafters and ceiling are open. My goal was never to get the entire garage up to 70 degrees and keep it there for the winter, but merely to get it above 55 for about a week so I could finish staining and varnishing the trim work and jams for the windows I replaced a couple of months ago.

My first impression when I picked up the 29 lb. box that was smaller than any computer box I've had in recent years was that there is no way this little heater is going to be able to do the job, but I proceeded anyway thinking that for the price I could get a second one. I ran 10-3 from the junction box down to a wall switch and then back up to where I mounted the heater (with the breaker off). It has very straight forward wiring and simple instructions that were very easy to follow. I flipped on the breaker, fired up the heater, and put it on high thinking that this little guy would probably struggle, but I was very surprised that after about a minute it started cranking out some serious heat. I turned it down about half-way and hung a thermometer at the other end of the garage. The outside temp was around 45 and within an hour or so it was 65 in my garage. I ended up turning it down to low and even with the overnight temp getting into the low 30s my garage has maintained 60 to 70 degrees with no problem.

It's been a little over a week since I got the heater and put it in place and my staining has turned out awesome!

Oreck Super-Deluxe Compact Canister Vacuum Cleaner Review

Are we all talking about the same machine? I don't know why all these other people dislike this so much.

I love this little vac. Okay -- let's look at some of the negatives other people have mentioned:

1. Too many parts. Pshaw! Most little vacs come with one suction opening, a little mouth on the front like a fish. Oreck designed this one better by attaching a hose to the front like the grown-up canisters. And, to make things even nicer, they gave us several different cleaning tools. So there's no place to store them on the vac. So what?! It's a small machine. It would be cumbersome to have those attachments hanging off the canister body while one works. Here's how you handle the parts: get a little mesh (see-through) drawstring bag like they sell for laundry and put them in there. Then put a little hook on the wall wherever you keep your upright vac and your vac bags. Problem solved.

2. Strap doesn't fit: Pshaw again. I've never had a problem with the strap because I hold the vac with the handle on the body. But those straps are inexpensive and you can get a longer one in the camping section of any department store. Problem solved.

3. Electric cord doesn't have a home: What? Have we become the pitied Eloi and can't figure out how to wind a cord up by itself? Cords are easily wrapped around one's arm -- just pretend it's a long extension cord. And you can put an elastic hair band around it to hold it in place. Problem solved

4. Suction sucks/Parts fall off/ doesn't work/Oreck won't fix it without a receipt: The Oreck vac I got wasn't defective. And, I don't know anyone who will fix a product without the receipt. Can find a receipt? The way to solve this? Take a plastic zip lock bag and every time you buy something with a warranty, put the warranty and the receipt in the bag. Put the bag with your important financial papers.

Now, the good stuff:

It worked right out of the box, it's never broken, and I've had it for 5 years. It gets used a couple of times a week in the home and in the car when needed. The attachments are easy to put on and do not fall off. The suction works fine and picks up lots of cat hair. It's wonderful for stairs.

The HEPA filter bags are so nice I'll never go back to a mini vac that just throws the dirt into the back compartment where you empty it in a cloud of allergens. These also keep it from throwing a percentage of the dust back into the air as most little vacs do. It's clean and easy. The bags hold a surprising amount of dirt. If you have problems finding bags when you need them, see #1 above. I keep my vac supplies in bags on hooks on the wall where I store my vacs.

It would have been nice to have a rotating brush on the front, but this was never an option with this particular device because it has a hose instead of jaws.

All in all, I like my little Oreck vac. It's a very well-designed, rugged, and usable machine.

Breville 800CPXL Die-Cast Stainless-Steel Motorized Citrus Press Review

We just received our Breville 800CPXL Citrus Press after the holidays and have used it several times since. Compared to the low-end (and much less expensive) plastic Krupps version we replaced (which kept tripping our GFCI), I rate this product 4.5 stars out of 5. It falls just short of perfection, but is nonetheless the most elegant and functional citrus juicer I've been able to find at this price point.

LIKES:
1) Beautiful die-cast design feels substantial and stays put when pressing citrus. Kudos to the industrial design team for turning a juicer into a work of art. This is by far the best looking electric citrus press on the market.
2) Brushed stainless exterior goes with any decor and looks great on countertop. No reason to store it away.
3) Removable strainer and juice basin are easy to handwash (I recommend using a small brush or toothbrush to help clean out the pulp).
4) Can press an 8-oz glass of orange juice in less than a minute and works with lemons, mandarins, oranges, and grapefruits without changing elements.

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT:
This juicer works well and beats others I've tried. However, there are a few areas that Breville engineers could improve in their next model. None of these recommendations should cause you to avoid purchasing this unit, but I list them here nonetheless since there's always room to improve most products:

1) Doesn't handle large grapefruit as well as I'd like. Still left some juice/pulp in the skin, which I squeezed out by hand. Breville could consider offering a larger snap-on attachment more suitably sized for pressing grapefruit.

2) Sometimes the skin of the orange remains stuck inside the top of the press, requiring manual extraction. Maybe I'm pressing too hard, but this still seems to happen from time to time. On a few occasions, I stalled the motor completely which surprised me. However, stalling the motor didn't cause the GFCI to keep tripping like the Krupps model we replaced.

3) The electrical cord is nicely designed, but a little too short. I'd prefer to see a 6' cord to reach to the nearest outlet while allowing flexibility in where to place the juicer on the countertop.

4) If you leave the juicer out on the countertop where there's a cabinet above, the handle (press) bangs against the top of the cabinet and requires a little finesse to pull it towards the edge of the countertop when you're ready to use it. The typical height between the countertop and bottom of a cabinet is 18" +/- 1" and often the face frame of the cabinet protrudes about 1/2" or so below the bottom of the cabinet underside. If Breville offered a locking position with the handle down, this wouldn't be a problem and it would be easier to slide out the juicer into position from the back of the counter.

5) The handle itself seems a little flimsy when compared to the rest of the die-cast machine. While it's functional and certainly strong enough, I would prefer a solid convex die-cast handle arm (oval cross section) versus the inverted "U" type cross section of the current design. Although the current arm does appear to be die cast, during the extraction process, juice and pulp tend to splatter on the concave underside of the handle. This makes cleaning the handle a little harder than it should if the handle cross section were convex on top and bottom.

Overall, this is an excellent product with bold design and good looks. I recommend this model to anyone who wants to add freshly squeezed citrus to your daily or weekly regimen. I can't comment on the long-term reliability of the motor since we've only had the unit for a few weeks. But so far so good.
