SPT 2.1 Cubic Feet Energy Star Upright Freezer, Stainless Review

Freezer is great for frozen veggie and prepared food packs as well as those bags of frozen breads and rolls and stir-fry, etc., that take up so much space or that slide around when a freezer door is opened and you search for something.

Our older house has limited refrigerator space in the kitchen (unless we rip out some overhead cabinets). When we replaced an old fridge around May 1st, we decided to buy a "supplemental" freezer. After reading multiple reviews on multiple sites, we settled on this freezer. It was small enough and "light" enough for me to muscle it into the basement. It did take several hours to cool down after plugging it in (just like the instruction manual said it would), but we've been using it since May 1st and have had no problems. Because some reviewers of this size freezer (but not this brand) had problems with things staying cold, especially with frequent opening, we keep a pint-sized plastic bowl filled with ice cubes toward the front. So far, the cubes haven't melted noticeably. They serve as a warning system plus give me some cubes in the basement when I'm working down there so they get replaced periodically.

(Aug 18, 2013) We've now used this freezer for several months and gone through a power outage of just less than 6 hours' duration and outdoor temp of 85+ degrees. AFTER the power came back on and the freezer had run awhile, I checked the bowl with the loose ice cubes in it. Result: the cubes had not melted at all (that is, they were still jumbled up instead of fused together or refrozen in a block), indicating that the unit stayed cold enough that the food inside stayed frozen.

Broan QP230SS Evolution 2 30 In. Stainless Steel Convertible Range Hood Review

The Broan QP230SS (after quite a bit of research) turned out to be an excellent choice for us. I was impressed with the low noise of the fan, even on high. Installation was a bit of a challenge. If you're handy and have the proper tools you should have no problem. Our fan is exhausted on an outside wall. The exhaust port and the power outlet were already there from the prior microwave oven mount so it was just a matter of connecting the new hood to them. Be advised that the hood's 5 mounting screws are only 3/4" long. I replaced them with slightly longer screws as the bottom of the cabinet was recessed 1" and needed to be furred out.
We saved over $100 by purchasing this through Amazon. I had several questions on installation and received prompt answers by calling Broan's customer service number. We have no hesitation in recommending this product if you're venting it outside. I'm sure it would be quite a bit noisier if it was vented inside.

Great Northern Commercial Quality 18 Hot Dog and 7 Roller Grilling Machine, 1400-Watt Review

Ordered this for a birthday party - used it for the Super Bowl as well - it's simple, easy to use and clean, of top quality, and it's a hot dog roller! Just plain fun to have around. You can cook up hot dogs, brats, sausages, or whatever - and the adjustable heat settings let you do so in anywhere from 3-4 minutes to 3-4 hours - quite versatile. A lot folks asked, "so did you rent that somewhere" and of course the answer was "no, got it on Amazon for under a hundred bucks" - and now it's the primary way I plan to cook hot dogs - delicious. The Pigeon would love it.

BISSELL Opticlean Canister Vacuum, 42Q8 Review

CONSTRUCTION:
Nice large rear wheels should keep it from tipping over unless you really yank it around. Black plastic matte finish. A push button top in the front opens to reveal an upholstery and crevice tool that are easy to get to. I question the durability of the thin, plastic hinges, though. You may snap the lid off if you're not careful. Sturdy metal extension handle with a push button extender that's easy to use in order to raise or lower the height. There is also a plastic push-button slider at the top but it seems Bissell has deliberately made the holes so tiny that you can't use it to vacuum the things you may pick up. Plan on having to turn the cleaner toward you to suck up anything you might pick up or you'll have to disconnect the hose each time. Either way it's annoying.

Both the on/off button and the cord rewind buttons are on the rear of the machine. There is a raised plastic symbol to help you determine which is which. Because the machine and symbols are both black it's hard to see which is which unless you're in good light. Eventually you'll remember which button does what but I wish the symbols were easier to distinguish.

As with every canister vacuum I've used in the past, the "flexible" plastic hose doesn't bend easily. There's an obvious need to keep it from kinking while pulling the vacuum around, but plan on fighting with it when putting it away for later use. The hose is also very, very short compared to the old canister vacuums I remember. This hose just barely reaches from the canister to the top of the handle. As a result, you'll likely find this canister bumping into the back of your feet as you pull it around. Step backwards and you'll likely trip over it. Notice how the lady in the product pictures still has the metal wand attached when dusting the curtains? Consider the tops of bookshelves, dressers, or anything else neck high or higher that you may want to reach with just the flexible hose and a dusting attachment. You will not be able to reach these this vacuum unless you pick up the entire machine first.

No motorized beater bar, on the vacuum head, just a brush you can raise and lower with your foot. That's ok if you have hardwood or laminate floors but I think it's necessary if you have carpeting.

OPERATION:
Unlike the picture shown in the images, you'll need to sit the canister upright to change the bag because 1) you'll likely need two free hands to remove the bag and, 2) you'll fight to keep the lid open. Then you slide the cardboard bag holder out of a plastic retainer that holds the bag firmly in place. It's a little awkward at first but not too difficult. The bags come with an innovative tab that you can pull to lock the dust in place before removing the bag but I'll be surprised if it keeps you from getting your hands dirty when changing the bag.

The Bissell comes with 5 bags, including one pre-installed. The cynical side of me imagines it's preinstalled because some idiot will forget to install the bag first and ruin the machine. These bags do not appear to have a lot of capacity compared to an upright vacuum. I expect you'll be changing these more frequently, I'm guessing 50-75% more. This is really bad, and I'll explain why.

The vacuum comes with both a pre-motor filter inside the vacuum bag compartment and a HEPA and post-motor filter in the rear of the machine. Only the post-motor filters can be washed and from what I am gathering based on the available replacement parts, Bissell is forcing you to buy these filters in order to get replacement bags. Five bags plus the filters will run you $20 plus shipping on the Bissell site, a price that seems like a cash grab to me. Beware.

This model comes with a so-called one-year warranty, however it does NOT cover fans, belts, or brushes. In other words, any of the items that are likely to break. Made in China, of course. Frankly, everything about this vacuum, from the short hose to the thin plastic, to the worthless warranty screams cheap, cheap, cheap. I just wish we started making stuff that lasts instead of cheap throwaway plastic items that break easily. Factor in the cost of the expensive replacement bags and filters and bagless vacuums start to seem like a better value over time. I would not recommend this vacuum unless you absolutely cannot afford a better vacuum and you don't plan to use it on carpeting.

SPT 1.8 cu.ft. Compact Refrigerator in Stainless - Energy Star Review

This little refrigerator is compact, quiet, keeps things cold and appears fairly sturdy. I also like the stainless finish, which is more modern than the white one I used to own. I had the same model (white) for 15 years before it broke. I'm happy with the purchase.

Emerson CF765BQ Loft Indoor/Outdoor Ceiling Fan, 60" Blade Span, Barbeque Black Finish

Emerson CF765BQ Loft Indoor/Outdoor Ceiling Fan, 60-Inch Blade Span, Barbeque Black Finish and All-Weather Barbeque Black Blades Review

I researched a lot of fans before getting this one. I bought 2 of them, one for my living room which is about 20 x 17 and one for my bedroom which is about 14 x 14. My wife and i love it. It moves air well, it's pretty energy efficient and it looks nice. Everyone comments on it. It doesn't wobble at all either on any of the 4 speeds. I didn't want a fan with a light because lighting always looks bad coming from the center of the room and it annoys me. I'll post up a couple pics.
