Kenmore Kenmore Canister Vacuum Cleaner, Progressive, Blueberry 21614 Review

Oh man! This vac is simply a pleasure to use and does a great job. It is replacing a progressive upright we've had for more than 6 years. The upright was one of the worst designed, in terms of attachment use, but still cleans like crazy. Great suction, just a pain to use except as an upright only.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it isn't all solid metal construction. I don't think that even matters, since it seems to be well constructed, but humor me.

We have dogs; a Lab and an Aussie. Shedding machines. They camp on the furniture.

We have both hardwood and carpet floors.

After reading the reviews, I had pretty much settled on the LG canister; great reviews for the money. Unfortunately, I couldn't find one at Best Buy or Sears. Went to Plan B; back to amazon reviews. Saw that the Progressive canister actually got decent reviews and since the motor and suction aspects of our upright were still excellent, figured I'd give it a look.

The Blueberry's construction and features were just what I was looking for. The powered pet brush was a big part of it for me. Lots of Aussie hair "drifts" and lots of dog hair on the couch and chairs. Short, black lab hairs are a pain to get out of upholstery...until now.

It has a true hepa filter and a 28' retractible power cord.

It was on sale for about a hundred bucks off the regular price and I found a floor model at a Sears store nearby for even less. $200.

When I got there, the guy at "pick-up" said it appeared to be broken, so he called upstairs and they authorized a NEW, in-the-box unit at the same price. Wow. I was so happy, I bought a two year extended warranty.

The unit was easy to assemble and works like a champ. The powered upholstery brush is extremely effective at removing the Lab's hair from the couch and is a great tool for cleaning the carpets and seats in the car. Also is a nifty tool to clean the stairs.

The floor brush is easy to adjust for carpet/hard surface; just tap the adjustment tab with your foot. On/Off on the wand handle is nice. Tools store neatly and are easy to swap out. The crevice tool and dusting brush are right on the wand handle and the extension tube and tools click securely in place (as opposed to the old upright's tools and extension tubes, which fall off regularly while we're trying to use them).

The floor brush cleans deep on carpet and does hard floors efficiently as well. The powered head has a nice "belt saver" feature, too. Run over something which is going to jam the brush and it shuts the brush down. Happened to me when I ran over a cheap floor mat and it ate the edging. The brush shut down and I pulled the length of string out of the brush, hit the "reset Brush" button, and was back in business. Very nice feature.

If I get the same longevity out of this unit that we've gotten from the upright I'll be delighted. So far, I cannot recommend the Blueberry highly enough. It works really well, it is easy (read: FUN) to use, and is a great value for the money.

Though I frequently read Amazon reviews, I've never written one before. I had to write one about this product. I bought this steam cleaner hoping it would help clean the grout in my kitchen floor. I also planned to use it to clean the rest of the tile floors. The floor is very hard to clean. I've never been happy with how it looks. I debated for a long time whether to get this model or a different HAAN model. I liked the versatility of the SI-75 but was skeptical that it would do a good job both as a steam mop and handheld steamer. Its reviews were so so as well. I hoped it would help clean the grout but didn't have high expectations. Well, I decided to go ahead and buy it, and I can honestly say I can't remember the last time I was so thrilled with a purchase. It does a fantastic job. I used the handheld with the brush attachment on the grout. I still can't get over how great it turned out. It also doesn't take forever to do. Marks came off the floor that I thought were permanent, and quickly. The steam mop works great as well. This steamer is very easy to use, versatile, and does an excellent job. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could.

I have this unit installed in the bedroom. A very quiet unit, can hardly hear the compressor kick on. Perfect for the bedroom....12x14. The noise is less than a box fan. I leave it running 24/7 and surprisingly does not effect the power bill a lot, seems real efficient. I had to adjust the tilt of the unit after the first install because of a sloshing sound from the fan in the rear of the unit. This was caused by the fan sloshing the water. The unit needs to be nice and level. The buttons on the front are easily cleaned, and the remote is the same way with its flat design. The filter comes out and is cleaned with out any effort. The unit does not have a fresh air/recirculate switch as some of the larger models. From the large amounts of humidity it pulls from the room, I assume its only recirculate. After a few days without any rain in a small room over night, it can leave you with a dry throat and irritated sinuses from the low humidity in the room.

First off, my friends know me as the "Crazy Fan Lady". I need to sleep with a fan and have a very narrow threshold of temperatures I can deal with. Living in Seattle, we have no air-conditioning and considering that we live in a townhouse, the upstairs gets extremely warm as the internal air-circulation is really poor. I have tried all kinds and all brands of fans and currently own three Vornados (including the 660) and the Lasko 20" Cyclone Fan. I've had fans cheap and expensive, box fans, table fans, pedestal fans and clip-on fans. The problem with most fans I've come across is two-fold: (a) They're usually pretty damn loud (b) They don't move enough air if it's not pointed directly at you.

While I love the Vornado 660, I don't think it's quiet powerful enough for a 15 x 15 living room. Also, I need to put it on a stool so that it sits by the sliding door and pulls air in. I wanted a stand-alone pedestal fan that looked nice, wasn't loud (I mean, who can play video games with the sound of wind blowing in their ears, how would you ever detect the Clickers from the Last of Us?) and could blow up a storm for those especially hot days that are becoming the norm. Initially I wanted one of those vintage-y Hunter fans, but I read that they were loud and didn't really generate or circulate much air. The Rowenta was my second choice and though INSANELY over-priced (for which I docked a star), I think it was a really good buy. It's definitely very quiet on the first and second setting. The third and turbo setting gets pretty loud but not as terrible as the Lasko Cyclone and is comparable to the Vornado 660 at the highest speed. The fan is definitely more powerful than the Vornado 660 in terms of air circulation - if I place the Rowenta in front of the sliding door pointing inwards and have another fan at the end of the room redirecting the air outwards, the room gets cool pretty fast. I think the trick is the five really thin blades that seem to just slice through air and spit it out. The one other gripe I have though is that the color is actually a dark brown and not the nice silvery color shown on the picture. I'm not docking another star though, mainly because it blends in nicely with my wood furniture but it is pretty misleading. The fan otherwise has a very sleek modern look to it, and the base is EXTREMELY heavy, so it means no rickety squeaky sounds even on carpet.

All in all, a really good purchase, lives up to it's Shhh-Silence name and produces good circulation.

UPDATE (17 September 2013)

Two months in, and I've finally concluded that this is the best fan EVER. It beats the Vornado 660 hands down in terms of silence and air circulation. I am not generally a lazy person, but I also just realized that the remote control is really useful for times when you're sitting on the couch watching a movie and suddenly it gets too cold and you don't realize that it's because there's a fan blowing because it's so quiet! I've used it almost everyday throughout summer - it doesn't get too hot in Seattle but for the days when it was about 90 degrees, the fan on the highest (not turbo) setting did a great job keeping the temperatures comfortable and did not create a sound any louder than a low hum.
