I had a larger portable ice machine but returned it, b/c it was too big. I saw this one, perfect size & it didn't eat up too much countertop space. When it arrived it was packaged very well, no damage whatsoever. No sooner I get it out of the box, time to play! Ice was a bit soft when it was dispensed, pop it in the freezer to harden it or use it straight away, it wasn't a deal breaker for me. I live in area that has hard water, I used distilled water in an effort to preserve the life of the machine, evidently the sensor doesn't recognize distilled water, had to toss some salt in the water reservoir before it would start to make ice. Lastly, I had a heck of time getting the plastic taste out of the ice cubes, directions recommend using vinegar, must have gone overboard with the vinegar, b/c ice tasted like plastic & vinegar! If that didn't work then mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda in the water reservoir & let it sit for 24 hours. That did the trick no plastic/vinegar taste, yay! Overall, I enjoy my little ice maker, more than I thought I would.
