When I bought this I thought I'd need to grind whole beans every time I wanted to use it. I get at most a sum total of a sixteenth teaspoon of fines at the bottom of my mug when I make two 10oz mugs of coffee in the French press. So, It makes great coffee and keeps it warm throughout the brewing process, doesn't make a lot of mud, looks great. But the big secret is you don't need to spend upwards of $30 a month on whole beans and a ton on a burr grinder if you just want a far better than usual cup of your favorite brand of pre-ground coffee. This is pure heresy, but I use my Frieling French press with Folgers Classic Roast and it produces less far less mud (1/8 tsp overall) than my former Mr. Coffee drip maker did with a metal filter. So call out the auto da fe, bring 'em on, I'm caffeinated!
