Plug in the Koldfront Ultra Compact Portable Ice Maker (model: KIM202W) into a standard 110V outlet, fill the reservoir with standard tap or bottled water and have ice cubes in less than 10 minutes. This portable ice maker can work in your kitchen, bar or office. It doesn't need a water line or drain, making it useful for picnics, tailgate parties, outdoor get-togethers, camping or any other application where a standard water supply is not available. You can select two different ice sizes, and the KIM202W can produce up to 26 pounds of ice per day. It stores up to 1.5 pounds of ice at a time in its insulated storage bin. Any ice that melts will drain into reservoir and be filtered back into the machine to produce more ice. I've had this product for 7 months. I've used it regularly & had absolutely no problems at all with it. Except for the initial start up (which only lasts a couple of minutes) it runs quietly. It makes ice fast, the first batch is usually ready within 5-10 minutes and each successive batch takes about 4-6 minutes on medium sized cubes.
I use the medium sized cube setting, though there isn't a lot of difference between the 3 sizes. The ice will be wet because this is an ice maker, not a freezer. This isn't a problem if you are going to use the ice right away. It comes with a handy little scoop too. If you want to store the ice for later use, you will need to freeze it before adding it to an ice dispenser. I just pour the ice into gallon sized zipper freezer bags & stash them away. It's simple to separate the cubes after they've hardened up a bit. I usually pour them into the ice dispenser in my refrigerator freezer at that point.
I bought this ice maker because we have a big family & lots of guests and our ice maker in the refrigerator freezer has trouble keeping up with demand. This is the perfect solution. You can make ice quickly as needed or make it & store it ahead of time.
We keep it out on the counter all the time. Most people think it's a bread maker. I have found it to be quick, quiet & dependable. I'm very satisfied with it. For the money spent on it (less than $200 including shipping) I consider it one of the best appliance investments I've ever made.
