Minka Aire F593-WH Traditional Concept 44 in. Indoor Ceiling Fan - White Review

I bought this ceiling fan to replace a ineffably ugly light fixture in our bedroom. I have 8-foot ceilings and was concerned that this ceiling-hugging fan with its rather short blade length wouldn't do the job. I was mistaken. Even operating at full speed the fan is very quiet and puts out ample breeze for our bedroom which is roughly 15x15 feet.

The instructions were well written and helpful. The accessories included were more than sufficient to do the job. It's always nice to have a few spare bits and bobs left over after something like this. The wall controller was outfitted with interchangeable wall plates and covers so you can choose from "ivory" (putty, beige, whatever) or white. I went with white. The whole thing installed very well. There are a few well-thought-out things in here like the hook for you to hang the motor on while you make the wire connections, the rubber gasket between the light kit and the motor (for sound dampening, I presume), and the use of a cotton-wool insulation material instead of the itchy yellow fiberglass crap that comes in lesser ceiling fans.

That brings me to the only gripe that I have with the fan: the wall controller. The wall controller is responsive, easy to install, and pre-programmed, but there is a bright green LED light that shines out the bottom of the switch at all times when the switch has power from the breaker. I don't know if Minka means for this to be a feature (night light?) but I find it highly annoying considering this fan is installed in a bedroom. I have not found a legitimate way to disable this light and I don't understand the reason for its existence. None of my wall outlets have lights on them at all times reminding me that "Hey! You! You can plug something into me and I'll make it work! C'mon! Give it a try!" all night long.

The light kit comes with a 100w halogen E11 "medium base" bulb. The bulb features include 1) emitting ample light for getting dressed and 2) ample heat to cook toast and eggs while getting dressed. I suggest that you replace with a dimmable LED alternative.

There is also a tiny hole (about 1/8") in the center of the glass dome. I don't know the function of this hole. It bothers me that it's there but I know full-well that _I_ am crazy so I can't discount Minka-Aire a whole star for the mystery light-dome hole or the obnoxious LED of Wakefulness.

Compact Table Top Grinder -110volts 2 Ltrs Review

I bought this grinder to make nut butter. It is the same as similar other grinders being marketed as nut butter makers, with the exceptions that 1) this grinder is half the price, and 2) it should not be run for more than 2 hours because it can overheat/burn out. This is because the motor on this grinder is not as well-ventilated as the motor on the similar other nut butter grinders I mentioned above. As any nut butter maker knows, it can take 4 hours to grind nut butter to the right consistency. So this machine needs to be stopped every 2 hours and allowed to cool down for about 30 minutes or so, or stopped every 30 minutes to cool down for 15 minutes. That's no problem if I am home, but because of this issue I cannot leave the house or forget about the grinder for 4 hours while the nut butter is being made. In the end though, it grinds the nuts just as well as the other similar nut grinders, and shutting the machine off and on as I just described is a trade-off for the lower price. And since this machine was really intended for short term use in making doughs and pates instead of nut butters, I gave it 5 stars.

Wine Enthusiast Silent 32 Bottle Touchscreen Wine Refrigerator (2-Temp) Review

I purchased this unit after a decent amount of research. I was looking for a mid-range dual zone wine refrigerator. This one hit all the right marks, silent, decent reviews, and a good quality. It appears that there is a manufacturers default that is on-going with the door. But the unit I received this time from Amazon was in perfect condition. I had attempted to order this unit from Wine Enthusiast earlier (big mistake). This wine cooler is fairly quiet (it does make noise, it is not completely "silent"), but it is not noticeably loud, just a mild humming. It functions as advertised otherwise and keeps the wine stored at correct temperatures, and looks nice as well. I did notice that when it is not filled to capacity (with 32 bottles of wine) that it runs more quietly. It is very easy to use and self explanatory. You just take it out of the box, wait a few hours and plug it in, fill it up, and you have nicely chilled wine within another few hours.

Robert@ Three Boys Farms gives a good overview on the Coolbot. I use the coolbot in my coolroom to keep grapes around 39 degrees F. before I crush. What I have to offer in terms of a review is a demystification of the product for any potential user that would like to know exactly how it works. To begin, it doesn't 'turbo-charge' your air-conditioner. This is largely hyperbole. There is definitely no magic involved.
The Coolbot consists of three probes, a thermometer, a temperature probe, and a heater probe all leading back into a single well sealed package. Here is how it works. After removing the grill from the AC unit you will locate the thermostatic sensor which is affixed to the cooling fins of the AC unit. This temperature sensor is naturally responsible for cycling the AC unit on and off. You will now take the AC's temperature probe and place it in contact with (secure beside) the Coolbot heater probe. The second probe on the Coolbot is a temperature sensor which is placed in the fins of the AC unit approximately where you removed the AC temp. probe.
The heater probe on the Coolbot is in direct contact with the AC's thermostat. The Coolbot heater probe simply heats up the AC's thermostat thereby causing the AC unit to sense a warmer temperature than what actually exists in the cool room. The second probe of the coolbot monitors the temperature of the AC fins so that the Unit doesn't ice up. Ron has taken an extremely simple concept, one that isn't wholly original and created an excellent, dependable, durable and vastly overpriced product that will do exactly what it warrants. I am very pleased with its performance.
