Like many of us I have been getting back into "vinyl". Nothing beats spinning the ole "black circle". I have a Technics SL QD 33 from way back in the day. It is a nice turntable but I wanted something more for the audiophile and really make my listening experience shine. I did a lot of online research and I actually ended up buying 3 turntables (I'll explain). First I purchased a used Technics 1200. That was a mistake, it had some issues and I was not able to return it which was bit of a learning experience. I then decided to buy a "cheap clone" of the Technics 1200 and purchased the AT - LP 120 which is a pretty awesome turntable for only $217 dollars on Amazon. Honestly that turntable rocks! So good in fact I decided to dedicate the SL 120 turntable to my bands rehearsal space and hooked it up to the bands PA wow! Post practice vinyl sessions are off the hook fun. Now I still needed a turntable for my home and based on my positive experience with the AT LP 120 I decided to spend a little more and buy the AT LP 1240. I was not disappointed. It's really is a nice turntable it is solidly built and has all the cool DJ features plus the USB connectivity for burning your vinyl to disc. The program for that is somewhat cumbersome however. I did burn a few 45's that I had to MP3's and sent them off to my SONOS systems NAS (network-attached storage) so now they are part of my digital library and thus liberated! The main drawback of the software is each song has to be created individually so it's very time consuming. I guess you could just burn the whole album side but you wouldn't be able to pick individual tracks as it would be one big slab of music. Something else to consider the AT - LP 1240 is basically the same as the AT - LP 240 but with all the DJ features. The AT - LP 1240 is a little cheaper so I don't know why you wouldn't buy this one instead? I like having the ability to adjust the pitch and it just plain looks cool. I purchased a Shure M44-7-H cartridge and I couldn't be happier with this turntable. To be honest I don't think you could go wrong with any of the AT - LP turntables. Enjoy!
